Special Sessions
Daily Boogie Mites Music Sessions (school ready programme)
We use original music that is enjoyed as much by adults as by children to ensure that the adults taking
part are enthusiastic and uplifted. We use home-made props and instruments to promote recycling and
to ensure that the cost of expensive instruments is not a barrier. We link all musical activities to the EYFS
areas of development to demonstrate how the brain boosting effects of music making, proven by
neuroscience, translate to curriculum linked development and child led interests.
Communication and language
Listen and Attention:
MUSIC – encourages children to listen attentively in a range of situations. To listen to stories, anticipating key events and respond to what they hear with relevant comments, questions or actions. To give their attention to what others say and respond appropriately, while engaged in another activity.
Personal, social and emotional development
Self-confidence and self-awareness:
MUSIC – helps children to try new activities. To become more confident to speak in a familiar group talking about their ideas
Managing feelings and behaviour:
MUSIC – helps children talk about how they and others show feelings, talk about their own and others’ behaviour, and its consequences, and know that some behaviour is unacceptable. To work as part of a group or class, understand and follow the rules.
Making relationships:
MUSIC – helps children play co-operatively, taking turns with others.
Physical development
Moving and handling:
MUSIC – helps children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements. To move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. To handle equipment and tools effectively – such as instruments
Health and self-care:
MUSIC – helps children know the importance for good health of physical exercise, and a healthy diet, and talk about ways to keep healthy and safe.
Yoga
Longworth Preschool provide a fully trained children’s yoga teacher, having qualified with 'Calm for Kids'.
She has an up to date DBS and has insurance through the BWY.
We provide sessions of 20 to 30 minutes.
In this 20-30 mins the children experience;
-
stretching, yoga asana, with poems, music and images
-
some simple breathing techniques
-
relaxation
There is evidence that yoga can help children to
-
deal with anxiety
-
improve concentration
-
handle their emotions
-
have appropriate ways to self sooth and relax
It also increases children’s flexibility, strength and ability to balance.
We work at the pace of the children involved.
Children say from past yoga clubs that yoga helps them to:
'Relax after a hard day' 'Makes me strong and peaceful' 'Helps me do things I didn’t know I could do before' 'Heals my bones'
'Makes me sleepy' Stretches my muscles' 'Helps me calm down when I am angry' 'Relaxes me so I can sleep' 'Helps me forget my worries'
Daily Meet 'Doodles' Sessions
The Doodle programme helps young children ages 2-4 to develop emotional management skills
and key happy life habits related to the 4 Trick Box themes:
Confidence, Calm, Communication and Creativity
Young children develop a wide range of personal habits and skills through 4 interactive, rhyming
stories and the many related activities around Doodles the dog, helping them to deal with challenges
in the here and now as well as building positive life habits for the future.
Snack Time - Nutrition
Nutrition is hugely important in all children's development.
The Preschool can provide a hot school dinner (click here to see a menu), or
children can bring their own healthy lunchbox.
We encourage parents to bring a healthy wrapper free snack to help reduce the
use of single use plastic and teach children healthy habits for their lifetime.
The children are encouraged to recycled their food wrappers, and food waste
in preschool.
We are a 'nut free' environment.
